Welcome to James & Son!

James & Son (Australia) Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately owned United Kingdom Company James & Son (Grain Merchants) Ltd.

The company was established in the United Kingdom in 1850, when the original Mr. James, who was feeding Brewers’ Grain to his London dairy herd, started selling a surplus of the spent grain to neighbouring farmers. Since then the company has expanded its business throughout most of the United Kingdom and has now opened offices in Australia, Argentina and New Zealand.

In 1990 James & Son established its Australian office in Ballarat, and started marketing potato by-products from McCain Foods as animal feed. With aggressive expansion, James & Son Australia now sells in excess of 300,000 tonnes of animal feed annually with its major markets in the dairy, beef and equine industries.  In 2007 James & Son Australia relocated its head office to Braybrook in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

James & Son Australia specialises in the efficient marketing, manufacture and delivery of its product range predominantly sourced from by-products from the food and beverage industries throughout Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia.  Products sold by the company in Australia include various potato and vegetable by-products, citrus pulp, malt combings, barley screenings, dairy/calf pellets, almond hulls, bean kibble, pea pollard, cottonseed meal, pulse mix, brewers’ grain, protein meals (canola & soy), palm kernel meal, cereal grains, manufactured mixes and more.

James & Son (Australia) Pty Ltd is managed by a Board of Directors including Mr Robert Hall who is also Executive Chairman of James & Son (GM) Ltd.
